Salubria Wellness Frequently Asked Questions

1. What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit?

Your massage therapist will require you to fill out an intake form with consent for treatment. Afterwards the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition, and to see if you have any presenting complaints.

2. Where will my massage session take place?

At Salubria Wellness, your treatment will take place in a relaxing environment. The room has been custom designed to be warm, comfortable, quiet and inviting. There is also a selection of soft music or sounds that have been selected to enhance your experience.

3. Can I bring my own music?

You are welcome to bring your iPod to enjoy the relaxing music of your choice.

4. What do I wear during the massage?

For a full body massage this varies depending on your comfort level. You may undress completely or you may choose to wear your undergarments. It’s up to what feels best for you. You will be given privacy to undress and get yourself onto the table. Once you are on the table you will be draped for your privacy by a sheet and a blanket at all times, only leaving the area being massaged exposed.

5. Will you perform a massage without the use of a drape?

The answer to this question is a non-negotiable no. Private areas will not be exposed during a massage therapy treatment. These areas are inappropriate to massage and will not be an option during your session. Salubria Wellness is a safe environment to receive professional therapy.

6. What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?

Make yourself comfortable. If your position needs to be adjusted, your therapist will move you or ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

7. How will a massage feel?

It will depend on the style of massage service you have chosen. Regardless of the style of treatment you are encouraged to ask questions, or mention if you feel any discomfort so that your therapist can use another approach or technique.

8. What kind of massage oil or lotions is used? Will they make me breakout?

Salubria Wellness uses organic & cold processed oils, and hypoallergenic lotions for sensitive skin. We offer a selection of choices that are herbally infused and fragrance free. Essential oils are available to add to your lotion or oil of choice.

9. Is a massage always appropriate?

No, there are several medical conditions or medication that can make massage an inappropriate choice. This is why Salubria has a mandatory intake form for all new clients. This brief paperwork will ask you general health questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage. It is VERY important that you inform your therapist of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are currently under care of a doctor for any condition it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session. Depending on the condition or injury, it may be requested that you obtain this recommendation before receiving any treatment.

10. How will I feel after the treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity, which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage. At Salubria Wellness we also recommend a hot epsom salt bath that encourages the release of toxins that may have been stirred up from the massage treatment. You may also be given homework to help you maintain body wellness until you can come in again!
